The New Italian Energy Law


The Ministry of Economic Development (MSE), along with the Ministry of Environmental, Territory and Sea Protection issued a ministerial decree on February 19th 2007, launching a feed-in tariff for the production of photovoltaic energy.

Feed-in tariffs are granted for a period of 20 years, beginning from the moment of photovoltaic system installation. Furthermore, the electric energy produced by the system can be used for self-consumption or traded on the energy market.

The geographical position of Sicily increases the average irradiation level in comparison with other European countries. Thus, the systems installed in Sicily produce much more energy than those placed in Central and Northern Europe.
